Bringing Preventative Care to You!

Bringing Preventative Care to You!

Eating healthy, exercising regularly, and receiving preventive services such as cancer screenings, preventive visits and vaccinations are just a few examples of ways you can stay healthy. The right preventive care at every stage of life helps can help you stay healthy, avoid or delay the onset of a disease, keep diseases they already have from becoming worse or debilitating, lead productive lives, and reduce costs. And yet, despite the benefits of many preventive health services, too many members go without needed preventive care, often because of financial barriers or lack of time.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is very important, not only for your family but for yourself. If you do not take care of yourself, who will?

Many illnesses can be treated or even prevented when you get preventive care. That is why your Local 888 Health Fund provides 100% coverage when you see an in-network Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield provider for the following preventive services:

  • Routine annual physical exams
  • Cancer screenings (depending on age, gender and family history):
    • Breast cancer (mammograms)
    • Colorectal cancer (colonoscopies)
    • Prostate cancer (PSA tests)
    • Cervical cancer (Pap and HPV tests)

These routine visits and screenings are covered in full and not subject to a deductible by the Health Fund when you see an in-network provider—there’s no cost to you. Local 888 Health Fund has noticed a trend in which many of our members do not take advantage of this benefit. With this in mind, Local 888 Health Fund Director, Rosalba Perez started a mission to bring preventative care services to our members! Along with representatives from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield and CVS/Caremark, she has been able to bring free blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings to Local 888 members at three job sites thus far.

Local 888 Health Fund is looking to expand this Health Expo in 2019 to all our members. Keep an eye out for more information about our Health Expo in the next coming weeks.
