Sec. Clinton sits down with UFCW Members
During last week’s Legislative & Political Conference in Las Vegas, NV, Secretary Hillary Clinton flew in to talk to UFCW Local organizers, delegates and staffers but also to have a sit down with retail workers.
Secretary Hillary Clinton met with hard-working retail workers from across the industry to discuss the issues impacting them, their families, and co-workers. During the meeting, the workers talked about their day-to-day challenges, including workplace intimidation, scheduling and unpredictable hours. The emotional visit with Clinton included workers from Albertson’s, Macy’s, El Super and Stater Bros.
After the intense sit down with retail workers, Secretary Clinton addressed hundreds of labor activists, organizers and leaders that attended the conference. Secretary Clinton vowed to stand behind labor unions and worker rights during her Presidency. “I’ve heard over and over again there has never been more at stake for working families in America than there is right now.”
Since this is an election year, the Legislative and Political Conference focused on politics and how to win locally. It also focused on developing legislation that helps organizing, and how to use the latest technology in politics to enhance how unions communicate politically with their membership.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi also paid a special visit to the UFCW Conference to speak to Conference attendees. Showing her support for UFCW members and legislation that would benefit union members and working families.
